Hinter ekn footwear steckt Noel Klein-Reesink der nach seiner Tätigkeit beim Pionier nachhaltiger Mode “hessnatur” auf der Suche nach einem Sneaker für sich nicht so richtig fündig wurde. Aus Nachhaltigkeitsperspektive setzt ekn footwear auf die Produktion im portugiesischen Porto. Neben ausschließlich vegetabil gegerbtem Leder kommen auch lokale Produkte wie Kork und neue Materialien wie der Bambusneopren zum Einsatz. So stellt das Unternehmen die meisten Schuhe neben einer Version aus Leder auch in einer veganen Variante aus Kunstleder oder Kork her.
